As adults we make food for the taste but, when a child you want things to not only taste good but to be fun to make too and so here are recipes to do with children. Additionally, your child will have memories far into adulthood if you make food recipes with them. At Christmas time I make a gingerbread house with my grandson and at Easter we dye eggs together. When these holidays come around he asks every year when we are going to do these things together. He likes to make funny pancakes too.

Next, use your favorite sugar cookie recipe. Let the kid use the hand and you cut out the hand shape. Then allow the decorating to them. Use sprinkles, chocolate chips, nuts ( it no nut allergy), colored sugar etc. They will have a lot of fun with this.

Chocolate Covered Bananas

As always, this is always fun. Use these ingredients:

medium ripe but firm bananas

wooden craft sticks

tablespoons finely chopped lightly salted peanuts

6 ounces good quality dark chocolate (60 to 70 percent cocoa solids), chopped

These will be ummy. Kids can also make faces on the bananas.

Firstly, place the peanuts in a shallow dish or on a plate. Secondly, melt the chocolate in the top of a double boiler over slightly simmering water, over the lowest possible heat, stirring frequently. Make sure the water is not touching the bottom of the top pan. Pour the melted chocolate into a tall glass. Dip each frozen banana into the chocolate, turning it to coat, and immediately roll in the peanuts. Place on a tray covered in waxed paper. Serve immediately or wrap individually in plastic wrap or waxed paper and freeze for up to 2 weeks.

Rainbow Gelatin Cubes

I saw this and knew the kids would love them.

  • 4 packages (3 ounces each) assorted flavored gelatin, divided
  • 6 envelopes unflavored gelatin, divided
  • 5-3/4 cups boiling water, divided
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  1. In a small bowl, combine 1 package flavored gelatin and 1 envelope unflavored gelatin. Stir in 1 cup boiling water until dissolved. Pour into a 13×9-in. dish coated with cooking spray; refrigerate until set but not firm, about 20 minutes.
  2. In another small bowl, combine the condensed milk and 1 cup boiling water. In another bowl, sprinkle 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin over cold water; let stand for 1 minute. Stir in 3/4 cup boiling water. Add to milk mixture. Spoon 1 cup creamy gelatin mixture over the first flavored gelatin layer. Refrigerate until set but not firm, about 25 minutes.
  3. Repeat from beginning of recipe twice, alternating flavored gelatin with creamy gelatin layers. Chill each layer until set but not firm before spooning next layer on top. Make final flavored gelatin layer; spoon over top. Refrigerate at least 1 hour after completing last layer before cutting into 1-in. squares.
